What is Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing? A first look.

GD&T symbols list.  A set of standard symbols which are used to define parts and assembly features and their tolerance zones in dimensioning engineering drawings.

Bonus tolerances.     Bonus tolerance equals the difference between the actual feature size and the MMC of the feature.

Datum features and datum planes.    A datum plane is a plane on the target that is established as a datum.

Feature control frames. The FCF is required to describe the conditions and tolerances of a geometric control on a part's feature.

What's a datum?     A datum is theoretical exact plane, axis or point location that GD&T or dimensional tolerances are referenced to.

Tolerances explained.   In mechanical engineering, tolerances set the allowable deviation from assigned dimensions.

GD&T symbols list.   A unique set of symbols  used to define the relationships between part features and measurement references.

Datum reference frames. A datum reference frame is a coordinate system against which the geometric dimensions and tolerances of a part are defined.

Material conditions. Material modifiers help the designer to better describe what is dimensionally acceptable.

Taylor envelope principle. The intent of the principle is control the form of a size limits feature.

Form Tolerance.     Form tolerance is a basic geometric tolerance that determines the form of the target.

Location and position tolerance. A geometric control that specifies how far away from True Position a feature of size is allowed to be.

Orientation tolerances. Orientation tolerance determines the orientation for the form.

Profile tolerance. The amount of deviation a surface or a line is allowed to have.

Run out tolerance. a geometric tolerance that specifies the run-out of a target’s feature when the target is rotated on an axis.
